  • Promote a Safe Work Environment: The OH&S Committee works to ensure that the workplace is safe and healthy for all employees by identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.

  • Review Safety Policies: The committee regularly reviews and suggests updates to safety policies and procedures to comply with Nova Scotia's Occupational Health & Safety Act.

  • Investigate Incidents: The committee investigates workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.

  • Conduct Inspections: Regular workplace inspections are carried out by the committee to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Facilitate Communication: The committee serves as a liaison between employees and management, ensuring that safety concerns are heard and addressed.

How to Engage with the Occupational Health & Safety Committee:

  • Report Hazards: Immediately report any unsafe conditions or hazards to a committee member or your supervisor. Early reporting helps prevent accidents.

  • Participate in Safety Meetings: Attend OH&S Committee meetings or safety briefings when invited. Participation helps you stay informed about safety issues and solutions.

  • Request Information: If you have questions about safety procedures, policies, or your rights under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, don’t hesitate to ask a committee member.

  • Engage in Training: Take part in safety training sessions organized by the committee to enhance your understanding of workplace safety and health practices.

  • Support Committee Initiatives: Actively support and follow safety initiatives and recommendations made by the committee to help maintain a safe work environment for everyone.
